One anticipates that diverse types of historic sites will also be found in those <br /> upland areas that were traversed by historic road networks and that had access to water. <br /> Architectural Site Files- <br /> The results of countywide standing structure surveys are reported in Mattson <br /> ( 1996) and Jaeger (et. al. 1996) . Past Orange County inhabitants have used the media of <br /> wood, brick, stone , and/or concrete to construct various homes, churches, schools , <br /> factories , and other facets of the built environment . A total of 13 architectural sites <br /> ( standing structures) were recorded during a 1991 - 1992 survey of the unincorporated <br /> portions of Orange County within the St . Mary' s Corridor (Figure 1 ) . These survey sites <br /> were recently revisited during the architectural survey part of the St . Mary ' s Road <br /> Preservation Project (Henry 1999) . The architectural historian added 6 additional survey <br /> sites to - the North Carolina Architectural Survey Files ( Figure 1 ) . The following <br /> discussion draws upon his report (Henry 1999) . The architectural sites are summarized in <br /> Table 1 following : <br /> Table 1 .
