St. Mary ' s Road Corridor Project <br /> Belk reported that he had met with Linda Stine, the archeologist and Geoff Henry, the architectural <br /> consultant and the project is underway . The group went out on site visits last week . Geoff Henry is <br /> underway with updating all the survey forms and about five additional parcels to be added to the <br /> inventory . Dr . Stine wants to solicit information from the local residents about the area history creating a <br /> good opportunity to introduce the project to the community . A database of 420 property owners has been <br /> developed to do a mailing for an open house meeting, in mid June . Stine and Henry would like to present <br /> a mid-project presentation to the Historic Preservation Commission during July . Their schedules are <br /> unable to accommodate our June 23rd meeting and asked if we could change that meeting date to either <br /> July 6, 7 , 8 , 13 , 14, 1 5 . The Commission discussed the choices and decided on July 14d' to replace June <br /> 23rd meeting. <br /> b . Local Landmark Designations : Phelps Farm , Ayr Mount <br /> Belk also reported that the group visited Ayr Mount and it is looking splendid with a one mile nature trail <br /> summer that will be open to the public . In addition, Mr. Jenneratt declined to <br /> to be opened later this <br /> participate in the Local Landmark designation program . It is a tax-exempt situation and there are . no <br /> advantages to the owner to participate in the program . <br /> Belk reported that the owners of the Phelps Farm have also declined to participate in the Local Landmark <br /> Designation program . <br /> c. White Oak Grove School National Register Nomination <br /> Belk reported that Iris Chapman had the open house with great turn out of alumni and her next step is to <br /> organize a non-profit entity and raise money for restoration . The consultant Richard Mattson will be <br /> doing a National Register Nomination on this site later this summer . Staff to have updates by the next <br /> meeting . <br /> Anderson asked what was the status of the manuscript. Belk said the next step was to put together an <br /> application to the Federation of Historic Societies for the loan . Allison asked who actually holds the <br /> manuscript. Belk replied that is now on disk format. Anderson noted it was time to find documentary <br /> ilable from the inventory . Belk noted the only photos were <br /> photos for the book and asked if any were ava <br /> recently taken . Allison noted that photos are important for the book ' s success . Anderson suggested a <br /> story in the News of Orange with an old photograph for example asking the public to contact us about <br /> their old photos . Gaya suggested getting a release form signed at time of submittal of photos . Anderson <br /> noted that until the publisher knows what photos will be included they are unable to go forward with the <br /> layout . Belk added that the HPC would choose which photos to use . Belk is to talk to the library staff to <br /> collect suitable photos that may be available . It was also suggested to use digital scanner to collect the <br /> photos . Belk will talk to Barbara Williams about how to proceed in this process and report back to the <br /> HPC next meeting . <br />
