Since the July 1997 announcement of the new credits , the <br /> desire to have property listed in the Register has been particularly strong among owners of <br /> non-income-producing properties (primarily owner- occupied residences) whose property must <br /> be listed at the time they apply for the credit . During the 19974998 planning year , ninety- one <br /> Study List applications submitted by citizens were approved, compared to sixty-three such <br /> applications during the same period last year . Most of the applicants indicated that they plan <br /> to have National Register nominations prepared for their property as soon as possible , and by <br /> the spring of 1998 the number of first drafts of nominations submitted to the HPO for review <br /> While the total number of nominations listed between July 1 , 1997 , and was rising quickly. <br /> June 30 , 1998 , was not much higher than the previous year (forty-two in 1997- 1998 , compared <br /> to thirty-seven in 1996- 1997) , the projected agendas for the July and October 1998 National <br /> Register Advisory Committee meetings suggest that the 19984999 planning year could see <br /> listings almost doubt e . -- Claudia Brown <br /> NATIONAL REGISTER LISTING UPDATE <br /> During the year ending June 30 , 1998 , private property owners , nonprofit organizations , and <br /> local governments sponsored nominations for a wide array of rural and urban properties from <br /> the mountains to the coast . They were written by both professional consultants and , interested <br /> property owners for sites as diverse as a coastal boathouse to a power plant in downtown <br /> Raleigh and a richly detailed Queen Anne-style house in rural Watauga County . The six <br /> historic districts that were listed included agricultural landscapes in the Piedmont and the <br /> Coastal -Plain, two urban neighborhoods , a downtown commercial district , and a collection of <br /> tobacco warehouses . <br />
