The session
exemplified the Legacy objective of promoting the use of the Open Space Design Guidebook:
Albemarle-Pamlico Estuarine Region as a means of integrating preservation into all levels of
public planning .-Melinda Coleman
ARCHITECTURAL SURVEY STATUS DATABASE
With the assistance of Meredith College intern Michelle Bright , Survey and Planning Branch
staff have created a database to chart the progress of architectural surveys in the state .
Refining and updating a report published by the branch in 1985 , the database provides
information about the scope of county and municipal surveys and indicates which surveys
produced maps , reports , or books . The database can be viewed on-screen or used to generate
reports that assess the reliability of existing survey information or identify areas in which
additional survey is needed . The Survey and Planning Branch anticipates that the database
will be a valuable research tool for staff, other historic preservation professionals , and the
general public. --Debbie Bevin
PLANNING INITIATIVES FOR 19984 999
Clint tue: nde c [rr the :..; Canfrrtu winrkit Oil* ;l Raromnte; t .e .  neliu$ oina f ac
C .
