PRODUCTION work (A) Text production: This category includes all time spent arranging for and checking work done by,other vendors or subcontractors, including obtaining and evaluating bids, setting and maintaining schedules, holding meetings with client or vendors (including travel time) , and checking quality throughout the book-making process. It also includes financial accounting done for the project. Estimated total number of hours for all stages of proof, and checks through the printing process is 50 hours, billed at a rate of $ 50 per hour, or Est. text production time. $2500 (B) Photo production: This would be the cost of time spent to tag, mount, size, mark for cropping, and lay out pho- tographs, copyfit the captions, and prepare position prints . Est. photo production ( 118 b &w photos @ $ 11 ) : $ 1 ,298 Subtotal, production: $ 3 ,798 [Production costs would be invoiced by B . Williams & Associates approximately every four to six weeks throughout the book-making process.] III. DESIGN work (A) Text design: Included in this category: preparing design layouts for the client's approval, preparing written com- position specifications for use by the typesetter; typemarking the manuscript. Work in this area would be affected by changes to the complexity of such material as lists, tables , appendices, etc. Fee includes one revision; all client changes after that (due to no error on the part of BW&A) would be billed @ $ 50 /hour. Standard flat text design rate. $ 1 , 000 (B) Cover design: For a five-color cover (four-color process plus 1 PMS) , including 2 rounds of comps and preparation of final files for printer. [Note: cost of reproduction four-color separation for the jacket is included with printing costs, below.] Cover design: $ 1 , 000 Subtotal, design $2 , 000 IV COMPOSITION Typesetting rates are based on the typesetter working from the authors' edited disk files . Output would be: Quark Xpress files, or Postscript files, to be used by the books printer to create film for printing. Estimated typesetting costs, 128 pages @ $ 15 . 00 per page $ 1 , 920 plus est. 10 percent alterations cost in proof, as $ 1 . 75 per change $ 192 [Please note that alterations (changes made in type while in proof) cost $ 1 .75 each with a $25 minimum charge per round of alterations; alterations costs would be calculated from the actual number of changes made.
