This is based on a preliminary castoff from the 92-page <br /> manuscript received 3 /29 . Since many of the proposed costs are linked to the length of the book, a shorter book <br /> would cost less, and a longer book more. <br /> Format.* Smyth-sewn, case bound book, measuring 8- 1 /2 x 11 inches, printed on a matte coated, acid-free paper with a <br /> five-color jacket. <br /> Illustrations: Approximately 118 black-and-white photographs, to run with the text. <br /> About our Estimates: Please note that our time estimates are based on comparable projects . If any given task takes less <br /> time than estimated, we only bill for time actually spent. Conversely, if any component looks as if it may go over bud <br /> get (due to unexpected complications) , we would contact you to discuss available options . <br /> Descriptions of Work: Costs would fall into six categories. <br /> I. EDITORIAL <br /> (A) Proofreading costs: includes the time for a professional proofreader to read the first proof against manuscript and <br /> check for any inconsistencies; to check alterations against second proof, and to carefully check final proofs and index <br /> proofs . <br /> Estimated cost (3 stages: 128 pages @ approx. $ 1 . 50 per typeset page) : $ 192 <br /> (B) Editorial coordination time: Time to transmit proofs to author and client; confer with author/client to resolve <br /> queries; cross-mark author's and client's changes to master proof; arrange for and edit the index; assist the Commission <br /> with Library of Congress cataloging and copyright matters; and miscellaneous telephone follow up, as 20 hours @ <br /> $ 50/hour. $ 1 ,000 <br /> (C) Indexing: Estimated cost for a professional indexer to prepare an index, working from - a list , of index topics prepared <br /> by the Historic Preservation Commission. <br /> Estimated 4 index entries per 112 book text pages: 448 entries @ 75 each $336 <br /> Optional (D) Copyediting: If the manuscript requires it, a professional copyeditor would edit the manuscript for gram- <br /> max, consistency, and usage, and would standardize punctuation. <br /> Estimated cost (92 manuscript pages @ approx. $ 2 . 50 per manuscript page) : ($ 230) <br /> Note: as this is optional, the amount is not included in subtotals. <br /> Subtotal editorial wo $ 1 , 528 <br /> , [Editorial, indexing, and proofreading costs would be billed as each stage of work is completed.] <br /> Fax number (919) 9S6 9112 <br />
