Proposed by-laws <br /> North Carolina African American Network on <br /> Historic Preservation <br /> Article le. Name of the Organization : The name of this organization shall be the North <br /> Carolina African American Network on Historic Preservation , hereafter known as the <br /> Network . <br /> Article 2 : Mission and Goals : The mission of the North Carolina African American <br /> Network on Historic Preservation is to support and encourage the preservation of North <br /> Carolina African American heritage by identifying and promoting awareness of significant <br /> African American influences upon the history and culture of North Carolina . The goals of <br /> the Network are to : build a statewide network of interested individuals and organizations to <br /> provide public input for state and local preservation agencies ; foster participation of North <br /> Carolina ' s African American communities and organizations in the statewide historic <br /> preservation movement; facilitate the development of a comprehensive preservation program <br /> to train and educate African Americans to assist their local communities ; assist with, the <br /> rvation of significant buildings , neighborhoods , sites , documents <br /> identification and the prese <br /> and artifacts ; garner the appropriate technical assistance to increase the use of historic <br /> preservation as a tool to stabilize traditional African American neighborhoods , create <br /> contextual economic development , and promote neighborhood conservation and tourism; <br /> encourage public agencies and private institutions to incorporate the African American <br /> perspective when developing projects and programs on North "Carolina' s . history and culture , <br /> and attract financial resources to protect historic resources, including traditional African <br /> American neighborhoods and institutions . <br /> Article 3 : Membership : The North Carolina African American Network on Historic <br /> Preservation membership shall include both organization membership and associate <br /> membership throughout the state . Members will be kept informed of Network activities and <br /> invited to - attend conferences , workshops , and the Network ' s annual meeting . <br /> Section 1A : Organization Membership . Organization Membership shall include <br /> community based organizations involved in the preservation of African American <br /> history and culture . <br /> Section 1B : Associate Membership : Associate Membership shall be reserved for <br /> individuals interested in the preservation of African American history and culture . <br /> Section 2 : Steering Committee : The Steering Committee shall consist of eighteen <br /> members : one from each congressional district ( 12) , three at4arge members , and the <br /> Network officers . For the first year of the Network ' s existence , the Network Officers <br /> will appoint the Steering Committee members . Thereafter , the Steering Committee <br /> members will be elected to staggered three-year terms during .the Network ' s annual <br /> meeting . Steering Committee members may not serve more than three consecutive <br /> terms . <br /> (OVER) <br />
