b' FY 1997 Historic Preservation Fund Highlights <br /> In FY 1997 . . . <br /> • Congress appropriated $29 , 324 , 000 to States from the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF)- level fund- <br /> ing with 1996 . This is a decrease of 3 % when adjusted for inflation . <br /> • State governments provided the largest percentage (78%) of nonfederal matching funds spent in <br /> FY 1997 . Certified Local Governments provided the second highest share of nonfederal matching <br /> funds (over 10%) . <br /> • Most recent data shows that 89% of State expenditures go toward historic preservation activities and <br /> projects, while the remaining 11 % is used in the administration of these . <br /> • NPS awarded $ 11, 820, 000 in grants to tribes for historic preservation projects , the same as in FY 1996) <br /> and when adjusted for inflation, a 3 % decrease in the amount of funding to tribes .
