090
Hist? ric Preservation Program : Goals for 1998 - 99 Fiscal Year
Page Two
February 10 , 1998
top- priority properties to pursue listing on the National Register of Historic Places and local landmark
} designation .
We also seek your support on the following additional goals for FY1998 - 99 :
• Develop a National Register nomination for the St . Mary ' s Road /Indian Trading Path Heritage
Corridor . The HPC is grateful for your approval of a Certified Local Government grant application
on January 20, and we await acceptance of our proposal from the State Historic Preservation
Office . Should we be awarded the grant, we ask your commitment of $ 8 , 000 in matching funds
to initiate the project .
• Publish the manuscript of History and Architecture of Orange County. We request an allocation
of $ 5 , 000 , to be combined with a $ 5 , 000 loan from the NC Department of Cultural Resources
and private donations , to publish 1 , 500 copies of the manuscript . The County ' s allocation and
the loan could be repaid from manuscript sales , and additional proceeds could be re- invested into
the Historic Preservation Program .
The Historic Preservation Commission appreciates the opportunity to present these goals at your work
session on February 10, and we look forward to further discussion of the strategic priorities for the
coming fiscal year .
Sincerely,
Tom Allison
Chairperson
/db
CC ** John M .
