002 <br /> Belk stated that the Board of Commissioners is holding a work session on February 10 , 1998 . <br /> Each Commission Chair has five minutes to give a pitch for what they want in the coming fiscal <br /> year. Belk recommended that the Historic Preservation Commission ask the Board of <br /> Commissioners for $ 5 , 000 to be combined with other funds and contributions to publish the <br /> Mattson manuscript. These requested funds would be combined with a $ 5 , 000 loan from the <br /> North Carolina Federation of Historical Societies and other state grant money, along with private <br /> donations . Recoup of County costs and loan repayment would be achieved through publication <br /> sales . <br /> Belk stated that another goal for the upcoming fiscal year would be to continue the annual <br /> funding for the Landmark Designation Program . The $ 10 , 000 that is there will be spent in the <br /> current year and the Board of Commissioners will be asked to continue funding the program. <br /> Belk stated that one of the goals has already been met . Matching funds for the Saint Mary ' s <br /> Road/Trading Path Historic Corridor project were requested and if the grant is accepted, the <br /> County has tentatively agreed to put up the matching funds . The Historic Preservation <br /> Commission should hear something from this grant in late March or early April . <br /> Allison stated that he will attend the work session on February 10th and requested input from the <br /> Historic Preservation Commission members of what order these should be stressed. <br /> The Commission agreed that an immediate goal is the manuscript followed by the Saint Mary ' s <br /> Road/Trading Path Historic Corridor. <br /> b. Designation Priority List . Identifying NRSL Sites for National Register/Local <br /> Designation <br /> and <br /> c. Landmark Designations - Current NR Properties <br /> Belk stated that Mr. , Keith Zahniser is here tonight and is preparing a National Register <br /> Nomination for the Arch Jordan house. Mr. Zahniser is employed by the owners of the Arch <br /> with Linda Edmisten in getting the documentation ready . <br /> Jordan house and has been consulting w <br /> Belk then asked Mr. Zahniser if he had any questions for the Board? <br /> Mr . Zahniser stated that Linda Edmisten suggested he make comparisons of the Arch Jordan <br /> house with other structures in the County . He then asked for suggestions from the Commission <br /> of other houses that would be comparable in style . The Arch Jordan house is one of the best <br /> preserved and most clear high style sites in Orange County . <br /> The Commission suggested several properties that Mr. Zahniser could look at for a comparison . <br /> Belk then requested that tonight, the Historic Preservation Commission come up with several <br /> sites that they would like to start on. This will allow Belk to contact the owners and let them <br /> know that the Historic Preservation Commission is interested . <br /> 2 <br />
