1'74 <br />March 7th minutes contined <br />A. H. Graham interpreted the North Carolina General Statutus pertaining to confiscated property <br />with reference to the request made earlier in the day by the Chapel HUI C.A.P. Unit. Mr. Graham <br />informed the Board that under the General Statutus all confiscated property must be sold at public <br />auction and the proceeds from said sale go into the School Fund. <br />The Orange County Board of Education appeared before the Board of Commissions. Rose Porter, <br />member of the County School Board Board, spoke relative to the sale of the old Carrbaro School. <br />Mr. Porter ask on behalf of his Board and requested that any proceeds received from the sale of the <br />Carrboro School be earmarked for the acquisition of future school site for the County school system. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Jones, seconded by Commissioner McDade, and unanimously adopted said <br />request by the County School Board was granted. <br />The County Account was authorized to around the county budget adopted in July of 1959 to reflect <br />the new per capita distribution of School Current Expense as determined by the State Board of <br />Education. It was. the consenus of opinion of the Board that the County was financially unable to <br />appropriate sufficient funds to the-County School Unit to allor•the budget as adopted in July of <br />1959 to stand. <br />dam Curtis, County Accountant, presented to the Board the bids received from the Appraisal <br />firms for the appraisal of all the textile plants located in the County. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Jones, and unanimously adopted, <br />the County Accountant was authorized to employ Associate: Survey of Greensboro, N. C., for the <br />appraisal of the textile plants at a bid of $1500.00. <br />The Tax Supervisor was authorized to proceed with the revaluation of the mining property new <br />owned by Piedmont Minerals, Inc, of Greensboro, N. C. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Jones, seconded by Commissioner McDade, and unanimously adopted, <br />the County Accountant was authorized to purchase from the Motor Vehicle Dept. at Raleigh, N. C., a <br />list of the registration cards for Grange County to be used for tax checking purposes. The funds <br />for this purchase is to be taken from the Emergency Fund. <br />The Registerof Deeds ask for $350.00 to be used to pay the salary of the Clerk which is now <br />employed in that office on a part time basis from now until July, 1960. Upon motion of Commissioner <br />Stanford, seconded by Commissioner McDade, and unanimously adopted, the request of the Register of <br />Deeds was granted. The money for same is to be taken from the Emergency Fund. <br />The Sherriff requested that Avery Maddry be granted his one step raise, which is due each new <br />employee after six months of employment. He also requested that Edgar E. Sykes, who has recently <br />been employed by the Sherriff's Department, be paid $270.00 per month as a beginning salary because <br />of his previous' experience in the law enforcement work. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner McDade, seconded by Commissioner walker, and unanimously adopted, <br />Edgar E. Sykes? beginning salary will be $270.00 per month with the understanding that no additional <br />pay raise will be granted to him until he has completed a one year employment period. <br />The fallmving names were drawn to serve as jurors for the March term of Civil Court. <br />1.
