ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: April 25, 2001 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 5 <br />SUBJECT: Additional Information on Soccer Field Costs/Coalition of Soccer Or anizations <br />DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Parks PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Economic Development <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Information to be distributed at meeting <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Bob Jones, ext 2661 <br />Dianne Reid, ext 2326 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill .968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To update the Board on the progress of a cooperative working relationship <br />between existing soccer groups, and to present additional information to the Board of County <br />Commissioners on the costs of developing soccer fields in general, and the Mapleview Farms <br />field in particular. <br />BACKGROUND: As an outgrowth of the Soccer Symposium Task Force, representatives of <br />Rainbow Soccer, the Durham/Chapel Hill Strikers, and Triangle Futbol have been meeting <br />regularly under the leadership of Diana McDuffee to formalize their intention to work <br />cooperatively to provide soccer programming and raise funds for soccer field development. <br />Information will be distributed at the meeting that outlines the consensus of the group to date <br />regarding the formation of an umbrella group, tentatively named Joint Orange County Soccer. <br />Additionally, additional information on the.costs of field development will be provided. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the additional <br />information as part of its assessment of the. need for soccer fields in Orange County. <br />
