Stephens, ext. 2528 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />(Preliminary Report Received April 17, Durham 688-7331 <br />2001) Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To give the BOCC the opportunity to discuss the Library Services Task Force <br />Report. <br />BACKGROUND: In June 2000, the BOCC created the Library Task Force to study library <br />services in the county and prepare a draft plan for Orange County libraries by April 2001. <br />Commissioner Barry Jacobs serves as Chair for this Task Force. <br />A group of approximately 14 people comprised of township representatives, friends, groups, <br />elected officials, and Chapel Hill and Orange County library staff members began meeting in <br />October 2000 and have met monthly to date. <br />The results of those meetings were presented as a Preliminary Report to the BOCC in order to <br />obtain comments from members of the Board. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with discussion of the <br />Library Services Task Force Preliminary Report. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board discuss the Preliminary <br />Report County and provide direction to staff on future steps. <br />
