7 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, Orange County recognizes that making time for yourself and family protects a <br /> 2 family caregiver's own health, strengthens family relationships, prevents burnout and can <br /> 3 enable a care recipient to stay at home up to three times longer. The chance to take a breather <br /> 4 and re-energize is vital in order for one to be as good a caregiver tomorrow as you were today; <br /> 5 and <br /> 6 <br /> 7 WHEREAS, Orange County understands 6 out of 10 family caregivers juggle everyday life <br /> 8 tasks, such as preparing children for school, managing household responsibilities, and working <br /> 9 full or part-time, and as vital members of care teams, have the responsibility of advocating for <br /> 10 their loved ones and making decisions that lead to the best care outcomes, whether it be for an <br /> 11 older adult with Alzheimer's or related dementia or living with a chronic condition; and <br /> 12 <br /> 13 WHEREAS, National Family Caregivers Month — celebrated each November — is a time to <br /> 14 recognize and honor family caregivers across the country, and celebrating Family Caregivers <br /> 15 during National Family Caregivers Month enables all of us to: <br /> 16 • Raise awareness of family caregiver issues; <br /> 17 • Celebrate the efforts of family caregivers; <br /> 18 • Educate family caregivers about supportive resources; and <br /> 19 • Increase support for family caregivers; <br /> 20 <br /> 21 NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim <br /> 22 November 2019 as Family Caregivers Month in Orange County, recognize a Caregiver Day of <br /> 23 Care on November 9, 2019, and urge Orange County residents to take time this month to <br /> 24 recognize family caregivers as the unsung heroes of our families and community. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 This, the 7th day of November, 2019. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 A motion was made by Commissioner Bedford, seconded by Commissioner Greene <br /> 29 for the Board to approve a proclamation designating November 2019 as Family Caregivers <br /> 30 Month and November 9, 2019 as Orange County's Caregiver Day of Care, and authorized the <br /> 31 Chair to sign it. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 34 <br /> 35 5. NC 54 West Corridor Study— Phase 2 <br /> 41 The Board received a presentation on the NC 54 West Corridor Study from VHB and <br /> 42 had the opportunity to provide comments and consider endorsing the Technical Committee <br /> 43 recommendations. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 BACKGROUND: The NC 54 corridor study was started in September 2017 by the Durham- <br /> 46 Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) and North Carolina <br /> 47 Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The study area is from Old Fayetteville Road in <br /> 48 Carrboro west to the 1-85/1-40 interchange in Graham. It includes Burlington-Graham <br /> 49 Metropolitan Planning Organization (BG MPO) and Triangle Area Rural Planning Organization <br /> 50 (TARPO). VHB is the consultant assigned to the study and they completed the final report in <br />
