Jordan Lake Water Supply Allocation
January 2001
Sunnmary
• Consistent with OWASA's past practices and with industry standards of maintaining as many
viable and reliable water supply options as possible, OWASA seeks to retain a portion of its
existing Jordan Lake water supply allocation.
OWASA will face a potential water supply shortfall of up to several MGD before the new 3
BG Quarry Reservoir can be put into service. If the conditions of service area growth, quarry
production rates, or 30-year weather trends differ from those that have been assumed in
OWASA's most recent forecasts, the extent and duration of that shortfall could be greater,
• OWASA has offered to adjust its current Level II allocation downward from 10 MGD to 5
MGD, but retains the right to make substantial changes in its final application if the need
arises before the deadline (currently scheduled for Apri12001).
• It is expected that the future use of OWASA's Jordan Lake allocation will be via purchases
of treated water transmitted through the Durham and/or Chatham County systems.
Prepared by:
Edward A. Holland,: AICP
Planning Director
Approved by:
i2~.--~~
Ed Kerwin
Executive Director
15
