1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: November 19, 2019 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-e <br /> SUBJECT: Authorization for the County Manager to Execute Contracts for the Purchase of <br /> a New Ambulance and Ambulance Remount <br /> DEPARTMENT: Emergency Services and <br /> Orange County Transportation <br /> Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Theo Letman, 919-245- 2627 <br /> None Kirby Saunders, 919-245-6135 <br /> Dinah Jeffries, 919-245-6123 <br /> Travis Myren, 919-245-2308 <br /> PURPOSE: To authorize the County Manager to execute contracts for the purchase of one (1) <br /> new ambulance and one (1) remounted ambulance approved as part of the FY2019-20 budget <br /> process. <br /> BACKGROUND: On June 18, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners in the FY 2019-20 <br /> Board Approved Annual Operating Budget and Capital Investment Plan approved funds to <br /> purchase the remounting of one (1) Emergency Services ambulance and one (1) new <br /> ambulance. An ambulance remount makes use the parts of an existing ambulance. The <br /> selected company removes the box from an ambulance that is in need of replacement and puts <br /> a new chassis on the vehicle. Reusing some of the key components of the truck and not having <br /> to manufacture a new box translates into cost savings. The remount process also allows for the <br /> refurbishment and updating of the box as well as select pieces of the truck. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The amount approved in FY 2019-20 Board Approved Annual Operating <br /> Budget and Capital Investment Plan for Emergency Services vehicles was Nine Hundred Sixty- <br /> Five Thousand Five Hundred Fifty Dollars ($965,550), which included the cost of one (1) <br /> remount and one (1) new ambulance. The total cost for the ambulance remount is One <br /> Hundred Thirty-Three Thousand Two Hundred and Four Dollars and 68/100 ($133,204.68), <br /> excluding accessories (radios, stretcher, etc.). The total cost for the new ambulance is Two <br /> Hundred Forty-Nine Thousand Eight Hundred Eighty Eight Dollars and 89/100 ($249,888.86). <br /> The total cost of the two ambulances is Three Hundred Eighty-Three Thousand Ninety-Three <br /> Dollars and 54/100 ($383,093.54). <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are applicable <br /> to this item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br />
