b. Archery Fun Day event was held with great results. Both events are aimed at increasing Orange <br />County Senior Games participation. <br />11. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training - All county staff <br />a. County department heads already went through the training. All OC employees must take the <br />training. <br /> <br />Continuing Business <br />12. BOCC Board appointment update <br />a. 2 new members, we are so happy to have you on board! Voted to move forward Gloria Brown. <br />Still missing representation from Asian community. Will see if someone would come onboard <br />ex-officio to represent the Asian community and hopefully apply for appointment for when <br />there is a vacancy. <br />13. Seymour Center Renovation Update <br />a. County manager will put in word with Chapel Hill town manager to see if we can go forward <br />with the permit. Renovation set to go when we get the permit. <br />14. James Harris expressed concern about the telemarketer issue. He suggested that we find resources and <br />provide a program/presentation to educate and help seniors inundated with telemarketing calls. <br />a. Colin offered to do a presentation provided by the NC Bar Association – Elderlaw Committee. <br />The slide presentation focuses on elder exploitation, including phone scams. <br /> <br />Continuing Projects <br />15. Project EngAGE (PE) Class Five is underway. <br />a. Shenae reported that Class 5 is going great and already in week 5 of a 13-week series. Thank <br />you Rachel, Colin & Cherie who have been presenters. <br />16. Project EngAGE Quarterly Breakfast – October 16 <br />a. Opportunity for all PE Grads to talk about their work in SRT’s and what they have been doing. <br />No speaker, just networking, refresh on some things and socialize. <br /> <br />Committee Progress Reports if needed: <br />17. Dementia Friendly Business Campaign –103 business trained representing 1100 employees. <br />18. Senior Tar Heel Legislature – Keith Cook/Dick White <br />a. Keith reported that new officers were elected. 4 presentations were made, one on Adult <br />Protective Services (APS). Over 30,000 complaints were reported to NC APS units last year. <br />Additional funding has been requested for adult protective services. Orange County has more <br />staff than many other counties, but it is a still a huge issue. NC DHHS is moving the Department <br />of Social Services to a regional coverage to provide more coverage to understaffed counties <br />19. Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee – no report <br />20. Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee – Vibeke Talley <br />a. Jerry Gregory reported that it is still early to know what the changes will be like at Peak <br />Resources Brookshire. Some staff replacement and reassignment. In the process of training <br />staff. If a resident is living in the assisted living area they must have their meds mailed in bubble <br />packs or otherwise use the Peak pharmacy. <br />21. Housing – Keith Cook/Dick White <br />a. Housing workgroup on Oct. 21, Coalition this Friday. Cherie attends the initiative Big Bold Ideas <br />which consists of 40 community leaders focused on community improvement. Cherie presented <br />the idea of a community – UNC Campus partnership focused around senior housing/affordable <br />housing. Oct 12 is the deadline to submit ideas. Cherie will send the board information on how <br />to submit ideas. After the deadline the ideas are grouped & considered. 5 top big ideas they <br />feel are achievable will be chosen to be worked on.
