Orange County Advisory Board on Aging <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />October 8, 2019 <br />Passmore Center <br /> <br />In Attendance: Colin Austin, Jeff Charles, Rachel Bearman, Keith Cook, Jerry Gregory, James Harris, Cherie <br />Rosemond, Vibeke Talley, Dick White, Jenny Womack; (Staff) Annie Deaver, Shenae McPherson, Beverly <br />Shuford, Alison Smith, and Janice Tyler <br /> <br />Absent and Excused: Heather Altman <br /> <br />1. Introductions and Announcements - Colin Austin presiding <br />a. Colin noted that Heather is away taking care of her father and that our thoughts go out to her. <br />b. Welcome to newly appointed members Jeff Charles and Jerry Gregory <br />i. Jerry shared that she currently serves on the Orange County Nursing Home Community <br />Advisory Board, and volunteers with Meals on Wheels and the Food Pantry. She worked <br />for Orange County Health Department and the Adult Day Health Center for 33+ years. <br />Her interest is in older adults. <br />2. Approval of Minutes – September 10, 2019 approved with the following correction: <br />a. Switch the information listed on bullet#15 with bullet#16 <br />3. Any other Agenda items <br />a. None <br /> <br />2017-22 Master Aging Plan <br />4. Quarterly MAP updates – First Quarter <br />a. Community Supports and Health Services <br />i. Shenae McPherson, VC 55+ Administrator and Annie Deaver, Aging Transitions (AT) <br />Administrator reported 3 Success Indicators: 1) OCDoA Aging Helpline calls were up this <br />quarter by 15-18%. The helpline is answered M-F, 9a-4p, a social worker answers the <br />call or returns the call within 24hrs. All AT team members are trained and answer calls. <br />2) On November 9, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. OCDOA will host an inaugural Caregiver Day of <br />Care. A day of wellness for care partners which will hopefully become an annual event. <br />Successfully expanded collaboration with Piedmont Health to offer educational <br />opportunities & services. An initial 4-part Piedmont Health education series led to <br />expanded services & resources to our Spanish speaking population. 3) The program <br />Green Burial, A Will for the Woods was a huge success with over 40 people in <br />attendance to learn about green burial alternatives <br />ii. Getting more helpline calls from caregivers and geriatric discharge managers; suggestion <br />to start tracking how many are dementia caregivers. The work of Orange County <br />Caregiver Awareness, Respite, Education & Services (OCCARES) continues. OCCARES <br />team members asked to train new AT staff and provide a refresher to older AT <br />members. Annie is reaching out to the geriatric discharge planners to connect our <br />services and information. <br />b. Transportation <br />i. Alison Smith reported that the transportation grant was renewed. The STEAM program <br />is guaranteed to continue for 2 more years and she was officially selected to replace Lisa <br />Berley. She is involved in quarterly reporting and creating a strong metric for grant <br />reporting.
