I am a community auditor in <br /> the course Leading for Racial Equity: Examining Structural Issues of Race and Class <br /> with the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill. I am a first generation <br /> college educated woman, pursuing a career in Education and Foreign Languages. After several <br /> years in education, I decided to switch fields and focus on Peace and Conflict Studies, along <br /> with Politics and Public Administration. I have participated in community interventions as a <br /> community member, as an educator, and as a practitioner. Based on my experience, I have <br /> come to believe that most interventions are doomed to failure, if there is not a paradigm shift in <br /> the way we approach communities. We come to communities with promising plans (to our eyes), <br /> and regardless of our greatest intentions, we usually fail to understand their realities. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> I would like to serve on this board because I am interested in the construction of relationships <br /> that call for a process of humanizing others. I believe that this relational component and <br /> interaction is the basis for trust and community building. Once we have become proximate with <br /> one another, we can start taking steps towards the transformation of our shared realities in a <br /> more conscious and meaningful way, holding each other accountable for the impact that our <br />
