6 rala Orange County Agricultural Preservation Board October 4, 2019 Penny Rich, Chair Orange County Board of County Commissioners PO Box 8181 Hillsborough, NC 27278 Re: Agricultural Preservation Board Appointments Dear Chair Rich: The Orange County Agricultural Preservation Board (APB) discussed recommendations to fill one district position and two vacant at-large position at its regular meeting on Sept. 18t", 2019. Members also discussed the reappointment of three existing members to second terms. The APB wishes to make the following recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners: Appoint new applicant Michael McPherson to the vacant Cane Creek/Buckhorn District position (position 6). Mr. McPherson owns a farm in this district that is enrolled in the VAD program, and is therefore eligible to serve in this district position. Appoint new applicant Jeff Sykes to a vacant at-large position. Mr. Mr. Sykes has farmed for nearly 40 years in Orange County in Bingham Township. His farm is enrolled in the VAD program. Appoint new applicant Beth Myers to a vacant at-large position. Ms. Myers has been an active vegetable farmer in Cedar Grove Township since 2010. Her farm is enrolled in the VAD program. Reappoint member Jane Saiers to a second term in her district position (position 4: New Hope/Hillsborough VAD) Reappoint member Stephen Finley to a second term in his at-large position (position 9). His first term expired on June 30, 2019. Reappoint member Renee Parker to a second term in her at-large position (position 10). Her first term expired on June 30, 2019.
