Animal Services News <br />September 18, 2019 <br />Upcoming Events <br /> September 22nd 12pm-3pm: 15th Annual Dog Swim at Heritage Hills Pool! <br /> September 26th 5pm-7pm: Low Cost Rabies Vaccine and Microchip Clinic at Eno River Farmer’s <br />Market <br /> September 28th 1pm-4pm: Low Cost Rabies Vaccine and Microchip DELUX Clinic at Efland- <br />Cheeks Community Park <br /> October: Dog Adoption Month <br /> October 30th: Spay and Neuter Day <br />Colocation <br /> Hurricane Dorian threatened Orange County to open a colocation shelter, but it did not end up <br />happening. <br /> Many staff volunteers sign up to work the colocation shelter, Durham shelter, and were willing <br />to locate to an affected area in NC for a 5 day mission. <br />Spay and Neuter Reports <br /> We received the Petrie Grant for $17,720 to support grant will be used to subsidize the cost of <br />spay/neuter services to a larger segment of the population through the department’s <br />spay/neuter program, thereby reducing pet overpopulation even further in Orange County. It <br />will cover households that have an income between 200% and 400% of Federal Poverty <br />guidelines. <br /> We received the Petco Foundation Grant for $40,000 to support the working barn cat program. <br /> Recently spoke with SNAP about doing a spay/neuter day for just OCAS clients barn cats. We <br />would have to pay the minimum for using the van, so it is imperative to get enough cats trapped <br />the day of spay/neuter. <br /> IAR has been sent a sample contract for doing spays and neuters for us and we are waiting to <br />hear back on if it is a possibility to use them for s/n <br />Sheltering Stats <br /> August 2019 <br />o 96% adjusted live release rate; 90.4% unadjusted live release rate <br />o 247 adoptions (184 cats, 58 dogs, 5 other) <br />o 316 animals admitted (181 Cats, 123 Dogs)
