Artists living in Orange County, NC <br />were encouraged to apply, Artists were asked to submit a letter of interest, relevant <br />experience/current resume, up to 15 images of their work, annotated image list, and references. <br />Thirty-nine responses were received from North Carolina artists, The artist selection committee <br />selected one artist from three finalists, Three weeks of public comment were received. <br />Artist Sarah Craige (Efland, NC) is suggested to the BOCC for the Southern Human Services <br />Center Public Art Project, Ms. Craige has excellent credentials and several years of relevant <br />public art experience and is suggested primarily for her artistic merit and her ability to work <br />successfully in the public art arena, The Orange County Arts Commission has approved Sarah <br />Craige. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: No new money is needed, $9,000 for this project was appropriated by the <br />BOCC in the FY05 operating budget. Additional money has been raised from the private sector <br />(Howard, Perry and Walston Foundation). If a grant from the NC Arts Council is received, an <br />apprenticeship component of this project will be funded, <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the presentation <br />and approve artist Sarah Craige far the Southern Human Services Center Public Art Project. <br />
