The covered training content was divided into six sections. <br /> <br />• Public Health Milestones and Current Challenges <br />• Public Health Functions and Essential Services <br />• Legal Responsibilities and Authority <br />• Local Governance Boards <br />• Board Members’ Work <br />• Effective Governance <br /> <br />Time was allowed for questions and the completion of registration and evaluation materials <br />associated with the training. <br /> <br />The BOH members had questions that were addressed by Mr. Raynor. <br /> <br /> <br />VI. Reports and Discussion with Possible Action <br /> <br />A. Health Directors Report <br /> <br />In addition to her report, Ms. Stewart mentioned the following: <br /> <br />• Ms. Stewart began by expressing her appreciation for Mr. Raynor for his presentation. <br />She also thanked the Board for their support. <br />• Last night, the BOCC approved Dr. Lee Pickett for the BOH Veterinarian seat. Dr. <br />Pickett currently sits on the Animal Services Advisory Board. She’ll be attending our <br />October Board meeting. <br />• On September 3rd, the Department of Health & Human Services announced that the <br />Medicaid Transformation transition to managed care will go-live on February 1, 2020. <br />There will not be two stages; all regions in the state will have the same start date. The <br />OCHD is still working on finalizing the contracts. <br />• The OCHD Diabetes Self-Management Education Program has been selected for the <br />2019 John Bowdish Community Award from the Division of Public Health for the North <br />Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council. Renee Kemske, Program Manager, and Ms. <br />Stewart will take receipt of the reward on November 8th in Raleigh. <br />• Ms. Stewart briefly mentioned that the BOH will work on the e-cigarette policy soon <br />referencing that the Trump Administration announced plans to ban flavored e-cigarettes <br />due to the deaths and illnesses caused by vaping. <br /> <br />Ms. Stewart also reminded the Board of some upcoming events which included: <br /> <br />• September 20, 2019 - “Be the Light” 3rd Annual Suicide Prevention Walk; 6pm – 7:30pm <br />Carrboro Town Commons, 301 W. Main Street at Carrboro Town Hall <br />• September 24 – 27, 2019 – NCALHD Meeting & NC Public Health Association Fall <br />Education Conference, Greensboro, NC <br />• September 30, 2019 – Orange County Opioid Task Force Meeting <br />• October 10, 2019 – Groundwater Training, sponsored by the Health Equity Council, <br />9am-12pm, 300 West Tryon Street, BOCC Room 230, Hillsborough, NC
