10/23/19 <br /> 2 <br />Chapel <br />Hill/Carrboro City <br />Schools Board of <br />Education <br /> Currently no updates related to the Board of Health. <br />DEAPR – Parks <br />and REC Council <br />Physical Activity <br />and Nutrition <br />Little River Park conducted a survey as they begin to develop a new <br />master park plan for future development of the park. Blackwood <br />Farm Park Phase ll will have increased parking. A new park office <br />and learning center will be built with a future nature center within it. <br />A disc golf course will also be built. A new drive into the park is also <br />coming. <br />The council reviewed the Parks and Recreation Master Plan <br />Recommendations: <br />1) Continue funding for operation and maintenance of existing <br />facilities and parks. <br />a. There is now a dedicated fund in the budget for park <br />operation and maintenance. <br />2) Open the planned parks. <br />a. Fairview and Blackwood Farm Parks are now open. <br />3) Complete the protection of preserves. <br />a. Hollow Rock Nature Park has opened and activity <br />continues on this front. <br />4) Formalize and build multi-partner facilities. <br />a. Commitment with the Town of Chapel Hill to work <br />on Millhouse Road Park. The department has done <br />less well with the schools. Using school gyms has <br />been problematic. <br />5) Development a Master Park Plan for the Mountains-Sea- <br />Trail and work toward making the connection with adjacent <br />counties. <br />a. This has been done and passed by the BOCC and <br />work is going on with this plan. <br />6) Build more trails and connect more open spaces <br />a. Like with the Multi-Modal trail in consideration <br />7) Work to improve trails and improve healthy lifestyles design. <br />8) Add programs where residents have identified needs. <br />9) Examine the role of community centers and how we are <br />meeting community needs. <br />a. The County now has three community centers <br />running. The Council should speak more about their <br />recreational offerings, especially as they address the <br />needs of low income folks. Is equity being considered <br />with all our programs?
