8
II. Short-Term Priorities
Parks, Open Space and Resource Lands
Acquisition and Faci/ity Deve%pment
In the context of these discussions, "Short-Term Priorities" are envisioned to be
identified priority needs fora 2-5 year timeframe (consistent with the County's CIP
planning approach).
A. Land Acquisitions far Parks, Open Space and Resource Conservation -
Short-Term (2-5 Years)
Table 1 gives the priorities for land acquisitions during the next two to five years. Note
that the 1999 Joint Master Recreation and Parks report emphasizes the importance of land
banking to preserve park sites now. The Task Force concurs with this recommendation,
and recommends that at least half the parks funds allocated from the upcoming
November 2001 bond referendum be devoted to land acquisition.
The cost estimates put forth in this table, and in the rest of the report, are based on current
knowledge and markets present in 2001. Estimates should be revised at the time of
funding to reflect the then-current conditions.
B. Parks and Open Space Facilities Development - Short-Term Priorities (2-S
Years)
Table 2 gives the priorities far facilities development during the next two to five years.
Note that the Task Force anticipates that County and Town discussions or discussion of
the Capital Needs Advisory Task Force will reveal other facility needs.
3
