Dispute Settlement Center Month Proclamation <br /> 3 The Board considered voting to approve a proclamation designating November 2019 as <br /> 4 "Dispute Settlement Center Month" and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Former Commissioner Mia Burroughs read and received the proclamation. She <br /> 7 extended greetings from Frances Henderson, who is traveling, and expressed appreciation for <br /> 8 the support over the years, and for purchasing their services. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 BACKGROUND: The Dispute Settlement Center began as a community mediation center in <br /> 11 September 1978 to provide mediation services to Orange County residents, and was the first <br /> 12 community mediation center in North Carolina. The Center now serves over 3,000 people <br /> 13 through mediation, training, facilitation, and Restorative Practices for youth services, and is an <br /> 14 essential partner for the courts, the schools, and government units, and a resource for <br /> 15 residents. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 The Center is celebrating its 401h year as a statewide leader in the provision of its services. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 20 DISPUTE SETTLEMENT CENTER MONTH PROCLAMATION <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center began as a community mediation center in September <br /> 23 1978 to provide mediation services to Orange County residents; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center was the first community mediation center in North <br /> 26 Carolina, and assisted in the formation of others around the state; and <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center now serves over 3,000 people through mediation, <br /> 29 training, facilitation, and Restorative Practices for youth services; and <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center is an essential partner for the courts, the schools, and <br /> 32 government units, and a resource for residents; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center is a statewide leader in the provision of these services; <br /> 35 and <br /> 36 <br /> th <br /> 37 Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center is celebrating its 40 year of operation; <br /> 38 <br /> 39 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Board of County Commissioners of Orange County, North <br /> 40 Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 2019 as "DISPUTE SETTLEMENT CENTER MONTH" <br /> 41 in Orange County and invite residents to observe this month with appropriate programs, <br /> 42 ceremonies, and activities. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 This, the 15th Day of October, 2019. <br /> 45 <br /> 46 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Price for <br /> 47 the Board to approve a proclamation designating November 2019 as "Dispute Settlement <br /> 48 Center Month" and authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 51 <br /> 52 5.
