<br />Quick Report <br /> <br />FROM: Parks and Recreation Council <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Monthly Meeting <br /> <br />DATE: April 7, 2011 <br /> <br />LOCATION: Central Recreation Center <br />____________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Vanhook, Bagby, Lee, Green, Dickinson <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Hudson, deNijs, Carter*, Hobgood* <br />STAFF PRESENT: Taft <br />* excused <br />____________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Beginning time of meeting: 6:40 pm <br /> <br />Report of the Chairs: <br />a. Council Vacancies – It was noted that the council has vacancies for the Chapel Hill town limits <br />and the Chapel Hill and Hillsborough township positions. Advertisements have been posted in <br />the papers and the Council will work to distribute copies in various locations. <br />b. Communication from Board of Commissioners – A letter from the BOCC was received by the <br />chairs recently. The council was thanked for their work in specific areas. <br />c. The joint meeting notes had been distributed by email and were approved for distribution to <br />the participating groups. <br />d. The Friends of Central Orange Senior Center has an opening for a Parks and Rec liaison, but <br />since the meetings are held during the workday, there was no interest from members of the <br />council. <br /> <br /> Report of the Director: <br />a. The council was reminded of the opening for Fairview Park scheduled for 2 pm on <br />Saturday, April 9. <br />b. It was reported that the budget process was well underway with spending held at or below <br />levels from the current budget year. <br />c. DEAPR is planning to begin a master plan update process for Little River Park. Staff will <br />hold internal meetings and provide updates to the advisory boards. The process is <br />expected to begin in May or June. <br />d. Lori reported on two recent items related to Eurosport Soccer Center. <br /> <br />Committee Reports: <br /> Friends Group – Denise and Allan are working together on this through email. <br /> PARC Goals – Some of the current goals have already been completed. It was reported that <br />a plan will be presented to the BOCC for a new Master Parks and Recreation Plan. <br /> <br />New Business: <br /> Allan added an item to the agenda – Discussion of the future Bingham Township Park. Allan <br />reported on some outreach he has begun and some questions that have been raised.
