Manager) Jane Cousins (Chapel <br />Hill Public Works staff) <br />_____________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Beginning time of meeting: 7pm (no quorum was achieved) <br /> <br />New Business: <br />Introduction of new Solid Waste Engineer Farouk Banna <br /> <br />Topic A Approval of June minutes: NO VOTE, NO QUORUM <br /> Deferred to September meeting <br /> <br />Topic B: Fiscal 2011/12 Solid Waste Department Budget Update <br />Wilson gave a further detailed update on the Solid Waste Department budget for <br />2011/12. <br /> <br />Topic C: Single Stream Recycling Planning <br />Cody Marshall of the staff gave an update on the status of single stream recycling, <br />slated to occur in July 2012. <br /> <br />Topic D Walnut Grove Church Road Preliminary Planning <br />Wilson described the concepts behind improving the convenience centers and led <br />discussion of how and when improvements planning, design and construction would <br />occur along with discussion of how to receive public input for the improved site. <br /> <br />Topic E Programs and Services Update: <br />-Asphalt Shingle Recycling: Spire updated on status of program and getting our landfill <br />permit revised to accept shingles. <br />-Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools Food Waste Collection Program: Marshall noted that <br />three City schools will be part of pilot program beginning this fall to collect food waste for <br />composting and initially only the preparation waste will be collected from ktichens, not <br />food waste from the students. County schools will be added later. <br />-Landfill gas recovery project: Construction will begin again this month and should be <br />complete within three months. UNC will take over the project once it’s fully operational. --
