Bryan, Lori Eichel, Jim Kitchen, Karen McAdams, Keia McLamb, Mark O’Neal, <br />Mark Sherburne, Nicholas Thomas, Tom Underwood <br /> Orange County Staff: Steve Brantley, Yvonne Scarlett <br />Absent: Delores Bailey <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 8:10 by D.R. Bryan, Chair. <br /> <br />Welcome Remarks - Kristin Smith, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce <br />Ms. Smith welcomed the group and provided an overview of the Chambers services. <br /> <br />Approval of May 13, 2013 Minutes <br />MOTION by Tom Underwood to approve the May 13, 2013 minutes; second by Mark O’Neal. <br />Minutes were approved unanimously. <br /> <br />Old Business <br />Communications plan - Jim Kitchen presented a draft communications plan. Discussion included: <br /> Definition of economic development <br /> Role/definition of “economic development advisory board” <br /> “Net new” and how the term can be controversial <br /> Focus goal on tax base diversification <br /> Economic Development Districts <br /> Strong economic development policy (clear and consistent message) – will allow success <br /> Form advocacy group to address the positives when projects are announced <br /> Housing industry contribution to tax base <br /> <br />Director’s Report - Steve Brantley <br />Mr. Brantley provided an update of active projects. <br />Personnel changes: <br /> Ellen Tai has been hired as the Economic Development Specialist and will begin July 15, <br />2013 <br /> Noah Ranells (Ag Economic Development Coordinator) has resigned to take a position <br />with NC A&T; effective July 12, 2013. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br />There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:43 am.
