<br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD <br />May 13, 2013 <br /> <br />Durham Technical Community College <br />Orange County Campus <br />Hillsborough, NC <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Present: D.R. Bryan, Lori Eichel, Jim Kitchen, Karen McAdams, Mark O’Neal, Nicholas Thomas <br />Orange County Staff: Steve Brantley and Yvonne Scarlett <br />Absent: Delores Bailey, Mark Sherburne, and Tom Underwood <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />D.R. Bryan, Chair called the meeting to order at 8:22 a.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />MOTION by Mark O’Neal to approve the March 11, 2013 minutes. Seconded by Karen McAdams. Minutes were <br />approved unanimously. <br /> <br />Old Business <br />Communications plan <br /> Steve Brantley - Advisory Board should speak on behalf of projects, incentives, etc. <br /> Jim Kitchen will put together the framework and will send via email (for discussion at July meeting). <br /> <br />Director’s Report – Steve Brantley <br /> NC Department of Commerce presentation – Economic and county staff will make a Power Point <br />presentation highlighting commercial property in Orange County to Commerce developers (at their semi- <br />monthly meeting). <br /> Economic Development Specialist position: Eighteen applications were received. Steve Brantley will <br />review the applications and select 5 or 6 to interview. <br /> Advisory board – Steve Brantley reviewed the current applications and will recommend Kia McLamb (HR <br />Director with MeadWestvaco) for appointment by the Board of County Commissioners. <br /> Groundbreaking for Buckhorn-Mebane and Ribbon Cutting for Central Efland and North Buckhorn Sewer <br />System will be on May 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Efland Ruritan Club. <br /> <br />Additional Discuss: <br /> Mark O’Neal asked that the “trash and recycling issue” be added to a future agenda. <br />o DR Bryan recommended a sub-committee be established to discuss and report back to the <br />full Advisory Board. <br />o Nick Thomas agreed to serve on sub-committee. <br /> Karen McAdams suggested the Advisory Board invite a member of the UNC School of Government <br />(Community and Economic Development program) to discuss the “role of economic development <br />boards”. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br />Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 a.m. MOTION by Jim Kitchen (second by Karen McAdams).
