MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />July 29, 2013 <br />1 <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: July 29, 2013 at the <br />Hillsborough Commons, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Garavaglia, Chair; Claire Millar; Arthrell <br />Sanders; and Mark Dorosin. <br /> <br />GUEST: None. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBER ABSENT: None. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Denise Shaffer, Assistant Director; Sharron Hinton, Human <br />Services Manager; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; and Joyce Lee, Business Officer. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> <br />DSS Chair, Pat Garavaglia, called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. <br /> <br />II. Board Comments <br /> <br />Pat Garavaglia thanked staff for working so hard on the flood recovery. <br /> <br />III. Public Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />IV. Agenda Changes <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />V. Action Items <br /> <br />On a motion by Claire Millar the Board approved the Minutes of May 20, 2013 with one change. Mark <br />Dorosin seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> <br />VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> <br />1. NC FAST <br /> <br />Lindsey Shewmaker informed the Board that staff are working through issues related to NC FAST <br />since the system was converted in early July. Staff expect to go live in the system on August 5, <br />2013 for soft launch. <br /> <br />The agency has made other changes at the front to triage families that seem to be working well. <br /> <br />Mark Dorosin asked whether the time-limited staff hired for NC FAST will need to be extended <br />given the changing timeframes. Nancy Coston responded that staff may bring that to the Board of <br />County Commissioners in August. Mr. Dorosin noted that he would be happy to help advocate for <br />extension of the positions if needed. <br /> <br />2. Disaster Update <br />
