Call to Order: Chair Dickinson called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm. <br /> <br />II. Additions or Changes to Agenda – Rankin asked to add a discussion of the Orange <br />County architectural survey. HPC Members agreed to add this to Item 4.a. <br /> <br />III. Approval of Minutes – Golan identified one typo in the draft minutes. Gilfillen motioned <br />to accept the August 22 minutes as written; second by Rankin. Approved unanimously. <br /> <br />IV. Reports <br />a. HPC staff position update (Cultural Resources Coordinator) – Dickinson and Shaw <br />reported on the hiring of Peter Sandbeck who will begin November 19. The HPC <br />decided it would ask Sandbeck to prepare a proactive plan of historic preservation <br />goals and objectives for presentation by March 2013. <br /> <br />V. Items for Decision - None <br />a. Letter to Tina Moon – HPC members signed a letter of thanks to former staffer, Tina <br />Moon, for her good work for the HPC and Orange County. <br />b. Local Landmark Application: Capt. John S. Pope Farm – Dickinson reviewed the <br />HPC had received Part 2 of an application for Pope Farm to be considered for local <br />historic landmark designation. The HPC asked staff to remind the applicant that the <br />HPC awaits further information to address the State comments. <br /> <br />VI. Discussion Items <br />a. Proposal for an Orange County Heritage Center – Tabled due to Ireland’s absence. <br />b. Historic Resource evaluation exercise – HPC evaluated a property from the County’s <br />inventory of historic structures. The Brown-Faucette Farm received 57.25 points. <br />Staff was directed to invite the owners to consider applying for landmark designation. <br />c. 2012 Work Plan – HPC members reviewed the work calendar without discussion. <br /> <br />VII. Information Items <br />a. Historic Preservation Summit follow-up letter – HPC reviewed sample letter that sent <br />to each of the May 3 summit attendees. No action needed. <br />b. CLG Grant for archaeological survey at Hollow Rock property – Staff reported the <br />County received 3 proposals for a phase 2 archaeology survey of the Hollow Rock <br />property. The County will hire firm to complete the survey by early spring. <br />c. Effort to protecting resources on public lands in Hillsborough – Staff expects to have <br />draft interlocal agreement ready for a joint County-Town meeting in February 2013. <br />d. Orange County properties on the National Register – Information item only. <br />e. HPC Annual Report and Work Plan (2012-13) – Staff to prepare draft for approval. <br />f.
