Call to Order: Chair Dickinson called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. <br /> <br />II. Additions or Changes to Agenda – Golan asked to add one item to the agenda, <br />concerning Chinqua Penn Plantation. Dickinson agreed to add to the information items. <br /> <br />III. Approval of Minutes –Lelekacs and Golan pointed out three typos for correction. Golan <br />motioned to accept the March 28 minutes as amended. Lelekacs seconded the motion <br />and it was approved unanimously. <br /> <br />IV. Reports <br />– a. Tracking the Relocation of Historic Structures: Shaw reported that he had spoken <br />with Jenks Clayton (Tax Administrator) and Susan Mellott (Building Official) about <br />the HPC’s March 1 memo concerning the tracking of relocated structures in the <br />county. Shaw said both were favorable to the idea, and would confer with their <br />before setting up a meeting to discuss with HPC member(s). <br />- b. Local Landmark Application: John S. Pope Farm: Dickinson introduced an <br />application for Local Landmark consideration for the John S. Pope Farm. He <br />recommended postponing any action on the application until the HPC had completed <br />an evaluation. He asked Shaw to provide evaluation score sheets and examples of <br />previous HPC evaluations at the May meeting. <br /> <br />V. Discussion Items <br />-- a. Historic Preservation Summit (May 3) – Dickinson called attention to the draft <br />agenda and asked Ireland to explain plans for the keynote address. Ireland <br />recommended a presentation about three notable cemeteries in Orange County. <br />Dickinson reviewed the rest of the agenda. It was agreed that the HPC would ask <br />participants to select one set of issues for a discussion group. Each group will be <br />asked to a) review list of issues, b) discuss progress since 2009, c) add new issues <br />d) identify top three, and e) discuss action strategies. The groups will then be asked <br />to report out to the whole group, followed by closing remarks by Dickinson. <br />-- b. Historic Preservation Month (May 2012) – HPC members discussed a draft <br />abstract and proclamation for board of commissioner consideration on May 15. They <br />also discussed plans for annual photo contest in collaboration with the Orange <br />County Museum. Shaw reported the Museum board had decided to delay the photo <br />contest until June or July, and the HPC agreed to ask to proceed with collaboration. <br /> <br />VI. Information Items – Golan reported on his work at the historic Chinqua Penn Plantation <br />in Reidsville. HPC members received information on a UNC Library exhibit, a Duke <br />documentary on the Whitted building (Durham), and a workshop in Hendersonville. <br /> <br />VII.
