PlayMakers Mobile was conceived to
bring that mission outside of our home at the Joan H. Gillings Center
for Dramatic Art and into the surrounding area. This program allows
us to better serve our surrounding community and reduce barriers to
accessing quality and impactful arts programming for those who may
not have other opportunity to experience it. Focusing on culturally
under-resourced areas facing economic, social, or geographical
barriers to accessing live theatre, this essential program connects
with new audiences in their spaces and communities, truly meeting
them where they live, and fostering new relationships throughout the
region For many attendees, a PlayMakers Mobile production is the
first time they will experience live theatre and can lead to a life-long
affinity and admiration for the artform. Additionally, this program
offers a substantive real-world training opportunity for our PATP
students, aligning with our overall academic and artistic goals.
Audience Description Our target audience for PlayMakers Mobile is middle/high-school age
children and adults that due to economic or geographic challenges
can't come to PlayMakers' theatre. Through partnerships with area
nonprofits, community organizations, and local schools and libraries,
this program aims to make theatre freely available, enjoyable and
accessible to all.
In northern Orange County, PlayMakers Mobile plans to travel
extensively to areas served by the 3 middle schools and 2 high
schools within the Orange County School system.
