DocuSign Envelope ID: F91 CE8F7-37AE-4D5A-AED4-B1 E2AED21 F77
Location Description All shows will take place in Carrboro Elementary School's school
auditorium. This location is ADA compliant.
Artist Description For the 2019/2020 school year, we chose three artists. In the fall we
will host Korean percussionist Kim So Ra who plays the hour-glass
shaped, twoheaded drum known as janggu. Kim So Ra explores new
rhythmic concepts with traditional Korean instruments and we chose
her as an artist because this is a unique opportunity for our students
to learn more about Korean music and culture.
Next we will host acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley, who will
shine a light on key events and figures in African-American history.
Mr. Wiley will perform his show"Jackie Robinson: A Game Apart" for
our 3rd - 5th graders and they will get a glimpse of Jackie Robinson's
life during an era of segregation in our country. Three years ago, Mr.
Wiley performed for our older students, and we are excited to bring
him back for a new group of students. CES would like to carry on this
tradition so that all of our students get to see at least one of Mr.
Wiley's shows during their time at our school.
Finally, we will host Sonia de los Santos for her show"La Golondrina:
A Musical Journey," a concert reflecting her experiences growing up
in Mexico and moving to another country, learning about other
cultures, and connecting to her own heritage. This show will tie in well
with our dual-language curriuclum and be appreciated by our
multicultural school population.
Are you hiring Yes
multicultural artists
with the requested
funds from this
grant?
What is the total 2000
amount you will pay
the multicultural
artists with the funds
you receive from this
grant?
How will the All three performances will be a part of the school day and all
project/program be students will get a chance to attend (when age appropriate).
publicized and Teachers will receive information about upcoming performances and
promoted to reach a study guide in the weeks before the performance. Performances
intended will be written about in the CES newsletter which is electronically
participants? delivered to all parents in our school community and will include the
NCAC and OCAC logos and funding credit lines.
How will you After each performance, we will send teachers an online survey,
evaluate the success created by the ArtsCenter, to assess student interest, the
of the program? appropriateness of the material, areas for improvement, and to
collect student and teacher comments.
