All of the following <br /> artists have also completed an application and attended a Teaching <br /> Artist Training Workshop at The ArtsCenter prior to being chosen as <br /> a core artist: <br /> • Virginia Queen has over 20 years of experience working as an actor <br /> and teaching artist. She helped develop The ArtsCenter's Artist in <br /> Residence program 13 years ago and has worked as a highly sought <br /> after teaching artist with the program since that point. In 2016 she <br /> also began managing The ArtsCenter's Artist in Residence program. <br /> • Anita Woodley is an African-American literary and theatre teaching <br /> artist, as well as an Emmy award-winning journalist, producer, <br /> columnist, actress, poet, mixed-media folk artist, baker, and <br /> playwright. <br /> • Kim Arrington is an African-American teaching and performing artist <br /> who uses poetry, drama, and music to reach audiences of all ages. <br /> She has worked with The ArtsCenter's Artist in Residence program <br /> since 2008. In 2012, she was the recipient of North Carolina Central <br /> University's 40 Under 40 Award for excellence in the arts and is the <br /> co-founder of The Relative Pitch. <br /> • Erin Dangler is the owner of Broadway Bound, which is a company <br /> that teaches musical theatre to children. In addition, she is the <br /> Performing Arts Coordinator for Duke Arts in Health and a <br /> choreographer for mainstage productions for Playmakers Repertory <br /> Company in Chapel Hill. She has worked with The ArtsCenter's Artist <br /> in Residence program since 2009. <br /> • Jason Abide is a potter and ceramic artist who has taught classes <br /> to children and adults at The ArtsCenter since 2007. He has taught <br /> numerous residencies creating video and ceramic art on site with <br /> students, as well as summer camps teaching ceramics, writing and <br /> producing short films and documentary filmmaking. <br /> • Charles Pettee is a professional guitar and mandolin player, singer, <br /> songwriter and teaching artist. He has designed assembly programs <br /> and week-long curricula for artist residencies to teach the history of <br /> Bluegrass music and has been a part of The ArtsCenter's Artist in <br /> Residence program for several years. He is co-founder of The Shady <br /> Grove Band from Chapel Hill and has performed over 5,000 shows in <br /> his 32 years as a professional musician. <br /> • Teli Shabu is from Liberia, West Africa, and is the Musical Director <br /> and Lead Percussionist of The Magic of African Rhythm. He has <br /> toured with the African American Dance Ensemble and was awarded <br /> Best Original Music 2012 for his work on The Brothers Size at <br /> Manbites Dog theater. He teaches throughout North Carolina and <br /> performs with his touring unit Djembe Fire! <br /> • Jaki Shelton Green (guest artist) is North Carolina's poet laureate <br /> and has been teaching poetry and creative writing for forty years, in <br /> addition to being a community arts advocate. She currently teaches <br /> Documentary Poetry at Duke University Center for Documentary <br /> Studies. <br />
