2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> DISPUTE SETTLEMENT CENTER MONTH PROCLAMATION <br /> Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center began as a community mediation center <br /> in September 1978 to provide mediation services to Orange County residents; and <br /> Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center was the first community mediation <br /> center in North Carolina, and assisted in the formation of others around the state; and <br /> Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center now serves over 3,000 people through <br /> mediation, training, facilitation, and Restorative Practices for youth services; and <br /> Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center is an essential partner for the courts, <br /> the schools, and government units, and a resource for residents; and <br /> Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center is a statewide leader in the provision of <br /> these services; and <br /> Whereas, the Dispute Settlement Center is celebrating its 40th year of operation; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Board of County Commissioners of Orange <br /> County, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 2019 as "DISPUTE <br /> SETTLEMENT CENTER MONTH" in Orange County and invite residents to observe <br /> this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities. <br /> THIS THE 15th DAY OF OCTOBER, 2019. <br /> Penny Rich, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
