I would like to create a
connection between participants, art, and the artists providing the
scraps in a way that allows participants to engage actively and
creatively. I also hope to share with the audience the power of
recontextualizing and reimagining waste and failure, as a launching
pad for creativity and growth. This is a key principle of artistic
practice, recycling, and a metaphor for a life approach in general.
The Collage Stop would be able to host between 5-15 participants at a
given moment, partly depending on table(s) size/availability. The
event at the ArtsCenter is expected to have 1,500 visitors. The ATI
event will be held during 2nd Friday ArtWalk and is also expected to
draw many people.
Funding for materials that are safe/appropriate for children and
individuals requiring art materials with dexterity aid is allocated in the
budget.
Artist Experience The Collage Stop is reflective of my time as teaching assistant for
Robert Peters Visual Language courses at the University of Chicago.
In Peter's class, students were given portions of found/recycled
books that they were to manipulate throughout the quarter. This
process resulted in the transformation of objects and materials that
had been deemed worthless. The salvaged and manipulated books
informed the students' artistic practice in a variety of ways. They
functioned as sketches, storyboards, models and completed works
in their own right.
Since working with Peters, the investigation into working with our
entire landscape, even the parts that are considered trash, difficult,
negative or internal has become central to each of my professional
practices including my decade of teaching mind-body medicine at
University of Chicago and my studio practice in collage and picture
books.
PROJ ECT/PROGRAM Please fill out the charts below with your project's expenses and
BUDGET income.
