The two biggest expenditures for
the band are the payments to our director and purchases of music.
Our director receives a small stipend for each rehearsal and music
performance he attends, and he has not received more than one
$5.00
increase per event in the ten years he has led the band. We would
very much like to increase the amount of money we pay him, and a
grant of $1000 would allow us to do this.
Organizational Goals Our primary goal is to enhance the cultural vibrancy of our
community by providing an opportunity for amateur musicians to
play music together for others. This goal promotes the strong
American tradition of providing free public performances of concert
band music in the community. In order to do this well, we depend
upon a reliable and competent musical director to choose pieces of
music that appeal to our audience and are within the varied
capabilities of our band members.
Our current director, John (Jack) Fuller, has been leading our band
for almost 10 years, during which time our band has increased in size
and has improved markedly. Our two major expenses are split
between paying our director, and keeping our music library current.
Of necessity, we have prioritized paying our director, but our budget
does not allow us to pay him nearly enough.
He receives $80 per rehearsal and $85 for each performance, most of
which covers his transportation costs to and from Raleigh. A grant
would allow us to increase his salary, thereby showing our
appreciation for his leadership, further improve the musicianship of
fhn h-2nri fhn r111,21ifv r,f r%11r nnrfrrrr»nnnc
