A core objective is to impact <br /> diverse audiences by bringing educational puppet programs to them <br /> at low or no cost. PSI brings the magic of puppetry to groups that <br /> might not otherwise have the opportunities to experience live <br /> theatrical performances. Puppetry programs are evidence based and <br /> are aligned with North Carolina Teaching Standards of Healthful <br /> Living, English Language Arts, Theater Arts and Guidance. The <br /> performances incorporate children's literature and art activities to <br /> teach and reinforce social emotional learning, literacy and theatre <br /> arts. <br /> Mission: <br /> The mission is to preserve, advance and promote the performing, <br /> visual and expressive art of puppetry. <br /> Board/Staff: <br /> The Executive Director and Board Members are comprised of career <br /> educators. Their combined teaching experiences and research <br /> confirm puppetry effectiveness in teaching children skills critical to <br /> success in school and life. <br /> Current Programs/Services: <br /> The puppetry programs are currently in a wide variety of settings to <br /> include pre-schools, schools, after- schools, summer camps, PTA <br /> events, scouting activities, corporation's family days, summer <br /> camps, teacher workshops, developmental centers/programs for <br /> disabled children, libraries and museums. <br /> Number & Demographics of people served: <br /> PSI has served over 1,500 children in Franklin, Wake, Chatham, <br /> Orange, and Guilford counties through paid puppetry programs and <br /> workshops. Data collected from the grant funded free community <br /> puppetry programs show an additional 809 children served with age <br /> break down as follows: 15% of ages 0 - 2; 44%of ages 2-4 years; 32% <br /> of ages 5 - 7 and the remaining ages at 9%with a 23% minority <br /> participation. Two Puppet Workshops were held for Chatham County <br /> Pre-School Teachers and undergraduate students in the UNC School <br /> of Education with 35 participants on including puppets as part of an <br /> arts integrated curriculum. Another Puppet Workshop is scheduled <br /> for June 2019 at the UNC School Counseling Department with 25 <br /> graduate students on promoting mental health skills in children <br /> through puppetry arts. <br />
