The puppetry programs center around a monthly
multicultural fairy tale/fable. The program starts with a story time
picture book read aloud. Story time is followed by a puppet show
which is an original script adaptation of the book. The puppet
performances use the traditional hand puppet form of puppetry
where the puppeteer is hidden from view. Graphic visual images (still
and moving) are projected onto a screen and serve as
backdrops/backgrounds and music/sound effects are used to
enhance the story line and viewer experience. After the puppet
performance, children craft puppet characters constructed out of
paper to re-enact the story in the library and at home.
Children will construct durable puppets to take home during puppet
three making workshops that highlight three different styles of
puppetry (shadow, marionette and hand/glove).
The Fabled Puppet Productions project includes a total of 20
comprehensive puppetry arts programs- 10 at each library location.
The grant funded community puppetry programs from July 2018-
June 2019 were very successful with 809 children participating.
Parent and site partner feedback was overwhelmingly positive with a
100% approval rate recorded on surveys given at the conclusion of
each program.
Project Start Date August 16,2019
(no earlier than July
1 , 2019)
Project End Date (no May 16, 2020
later than June 30,
2020)
