Orange County Advisory Board on Aging <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />Tuesday, August 13, 2019 <br />Passmore Center <br /> <br />Board Members Present: Mary Altpeter, Colin Austin, Jeff Charles (board candidate), Vibeke Talley, Dick <br />White Jenny Womack; (Staff) Lisa Berley, Annie Deaver, Mike Komives, Janice Tyler, Shenae McPherson, <br />Beverly Shuford, Cherie Rosemond; and (BOCC) Commissioner Sally Green <br /> <br />Absent and excused: Heather Altman, Rachel Bearman <br />Absent: Keith Cook, James Harris <br /> <br />AGENDA <br /> <br />1. Introductions and Announcements – Colin Austin, Incoming Vice-chair presiding <br />a. Colin welcomed the board and guest, Commissioner Sally Green, Orange County BOCC <br />2. Approval of Minutes – June 11, 2019 <br />a. Approved <br />3. Any other Agenda items <br />a. Add Triangle J AAA Older American’s Act (OAA) online advocacy training. The OAA expires on <br />September 30, 2019 unless reauthorized <br /> <br />Director’s Report <br />4. Staff updates <br />a. Lisa Berley’s Retirement effective August 30: A retirement celebration will be held on <br />September 13 from 3-5 p.m. All welcome and invited to attend. Janice stated that Lisa has done <br />an incredible job providing individual consultation and travel training. Interviews for the <br />position will be held on Wednesday, August 14. <br />b. Welcome Wellness Therapeutic Recreation Interns from NCCU -Cierra Hoover and Lundan <br />Winchester. They will be working with Myra Austin and Latonya Brown to support and lead <br />fitness classes and to be trained for evidence based programs. Former intern, Emily Morgan, <br />will also be trained to lead an evidence based program. <br />5. 2nd Annual Working and Volunteering after Retirement – Exploring Your Options: Workshop was held <br />at the Durham Tech – Hillsborough Campus on July 17. The event was very successful with 53 in <br />attendance. Workshops focused on people seeking FT/PT employment, entrepreneurship, franchise <br />opportunities, volunteering, and ended with an employer panel. Great partnership with Durham Tech <br />a. Janice will ask Durham Tech about using their facility to ensure “Continuity of Operations” in <br />the event that the Passmore Center were ever out of operation <br />6. Caregivers Summit – August 20, Friday Center, Annual event sponsored by Transitions Guiding Lights. <br />Aging Transitions (AT) team members, Annie Deaver and Marie Dagger, will present a workshop at the <br />event entitled, “Self-care for Caregivers.” The event is August 20, 9 am-3 pm. AT presentation from 2- <br />3p session, all are invited to attend. <br /> <br />Continuing Business <br />7. Board Vacancies <br />a. Michael Zuber resigned from the Advisory Board on Aging, but will continue to serve on the <br />Adult Care Community Advisory Committee. We will look for someone from the committee to <br />be on this board as a liaison between both boards
