<br />Throughout its 25-year history in. service of art and artists, TAC has been a resource for children
<br />and families to enjoy the arts together and to celebrate individual creativity.
<br />WHAT IS IT?: Kids' Day is a free, day-long, multi-cultural, multidisciplinary arts festival for children
<br />and families. In addition to a celebration of TAC's 25 years of programming excellence, this free festival
<br />is intended to thank families for their past support, provide information about scholarships for upcoming
<br />Children and Family programs; and introduce more families to TAC's abundance of performances and
<br />learning opportunities.
<br />Children and Family Programs, which served almost 20,000 children in the Piedmont last year,
<br />includes:
<br />• The ArtSchool offers courses that.nurture the creativity in each individual. Regularly scheduled
<br />courses are offered for children in visual and performing arts. Scheduled by semester, classes are held
<br />after school and on Saturdays. Other courses for parents and toddler; are held on weekday mornings.
<br />Typical course offerings include 2-D and 3-D visual art projects, music and movement for
<br />preschoolers, clay and theater courses, among others. Last year, The ArtSchool served 328 youth.
<br />• The School Show Series meets a need for accessible, quality arts.education for students and educators.
<br />The Series presents high quality, age appropriate performing arts programs for students from over 160
<br />schools throughout NC. The series supplements school curricula in the arts, language arts, social
<br />studies, science and multicultural education Performances and residences are offered either at TAC or
<br />in local schools or conuntuiity organizations. This service saves the schools and organizations
<br />valuable time and resources and makes participation affordable, as TAC does not charge for booking.
<br />Last year, The School Show Series served 5,674 students and teachers at TAC and 11,648 students and
<br />teachers through outreach programming.
<br />• The SuperFun Series i5 a monthly series of.perfornung arts programs for children and families held at
<br />TAC on Saturday mornings and holiday evenings from October through April. Triangle area artists
<br />and touring performers present short programs geared toward young clWdren. Last year, SuperFun
<br />provided 1,123 children and their families with high quality, age appropriate, multi-cultural and multi-
<br />disciplinary arts experiences.
<br />• IKidsCamp is a creative arts summer camp for children ages 6-12. Theme-based sessions integrate
<br />visual arts, theater, dance and music with subjects such as history, multicultural differences, science,
<br />the environment, and technology. KidsCamp is offered in half-or full~iay segments in four two-week
<br />sessions. Each session culminates in a family sharing day. Last year, KidsCamp served 250 children.
<br />Kids' Day will salute past and future participants through amulti-cultural and multi-disciplinary arts
<br />celebration which will include possible performances by the youth group Sons of Steel, Rags to Riches
<br />Theater Company, Pica Flor, Donovan and his life-sized puppets, Rainbow the Clown; four to six
<br />workshops taught by professional ArtSchool instructors (which may include such classes as cartooning,
<br />clay handbuilding, music for toddlers, mask making, creative drama, writing through art); and a
<br />celebration lunch including pizza and an ArtsCenter 2S~' year birthday cake.
<br />WHO IS SERVED?: We project 300 to 800 children and their parents will attend Kids' Day festivities.
<br />Promotional brochures will be written in both English and Spanish.
<br />WHEN AND WHERE?: Kids' Day will be held on Saturday, Apri121, 2001 at TAC. Activities will
<br />take place both indoors and out from approximately 10 a.m. through S p.m.
<br />HOW IS liT MARKETED?: Kids' Day will be publicized in TAC's February, March and April
<br />newsletter, ArtsCenter Live (circ. 18,000/month) and in the Winter/Spring ArtSchool course catalogue
<br />(circ. 15,000), ArtSchool catalogues are also distributed in Orange Co. public schools. A flyer will be
<br />mailed to 1,500 TAC mailing list families, and distributed to Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School students,
<br />homeschoolers, pediatricians' offices, kids' stores, and other Orange County centers where children and
