The Council adopted a resolution that among other things: <br />• affirms the Council's intent to preserve and maintain the Old Post Office building as an <br />important community asset . <br />• states the Council's desire to maintain a U.S. Postal Service office in the building <br />• provides for continued use of space by the Franklin Street Teen Center <br />• authorizes development of a small space as a Welcome Center, to be operated by the <br />Chapel HiII~Downtown Commission <br />• calls for continued use of the building by the District Court <br />The Town Council requests that the Board of County Commissioners authorize appropriate <br />County officials to collaborate with representatives of the Town of Chapel Hill and <br />.representatives of the District Court of the State of North Carolina in joint development of a <br />long-term use plan for Court facilities at the Old Past Office in downtown Chapel Hill. Town <br />representatives will briefly report to the BOCC the results of the Old Post Office Committee's <br />work, and respond to Commissioners' questions. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is na financial impact associated with the presentation of this <br />report from officials of the Town of Chapel Hill. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the presentation,. <br />and provide appropriate direction to staff. <br />
