ORA1~tGE COUNTY IiUARD OF C~MiViISSIOi1fERS <br />PR LAMATION <br />FAIR Ha-USING MaNTH <br />~VHERF;AS, April 2001 marks the thirty-third anniversary of Title VIII of the <br />Civil Rights Act of 1968, the Federal Fair Housing Act, which provides far etlual <br />opportunity for all people in the sale, rental, and financing of housing, and prohibits housing <br />discrimination an the basis of race, color, relic on, sex, age, ur national origin; and. <br />W~IEREAS, the l air housing Amendments Act of 1988 aiided familial status <br />and handicap to those classes protected by Title VIII and added <br />strong new ri.glits, remedies, monetary penalties, and judicial. and <br />administrative enforcement procedures; and <br />WH:FREAS, the grange County Board at; Commissioners enacted the Orange <br />County Civil Rights Ordinance on June 6, 1994, which affords to the <br />residents of Orange County the protections guaranteed by Title VI11 <br />and additionally encompasses the protected cla.5ses of veterazx status <br />and ago; and <br />WA7~:REAS, in spite o.fthe protections afforded by the Orange County Civil <br />ltiglits Ordinance and Title VIII as amended, illegal housing <br />discrimination still occurs in our nation and in our county; <br />NOW, T1IIEREFORE, do we, the Commissioners of Orange County, proclaim April, 20()1 as Ft\IR <br />HOUSING MONTI:I and ct~mmend this observance to all Orange County Citizens. <br />This the ZO`h day of Mazch, 2001. <br />Stephen 1-1.
