Draft Carrboro Bike Plan Map Series Zachary Hallock, Town of Carrboro <br /> PURPOSE: Receive an update on the Carrboro Bike Plan; and review and provide comments <br /> on the Draft Carrboro Bike Plan Map Series regional Orange County connections. <br /> BACKGROUND: In 2018, the Town of Carrboro was awarded a planning grant from the North <br /> Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to update its comprehensive bicycle <br /> transportation plan. The overall goal of the Project is to provide a framework for NCDOT and the <br /> Town to enhance bicycling as a mode of transportation for residents and visitors alike, improving <br /> access, connectivity, and safety. Additional goals include promoting healthy active lifestyles, <br /> diversifying the local economy, and reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions. <br /> The planning process was initiated in late 2018 and includes identified key routes, connections, <br /> opportunities, obstacles, and prioritized areas for future implementation. The draft plan review <br /> and revisions are to be completed in September or October, and final plan and presentations <br /> are scheduled for this winter. <br /> Planning staff has participated on the steering committee for the plan update, with a particular <br /> focus on regional connectivity. Attachment A provides four separate network maps: <br /> 1) Existing Network <br /> 2) Existing & In Development <br /> 3) Existing, In Development, & Strategic Priorities <br /> 4) Long-term Network <br /> The OUTBoard is being requested to review the regional Orange County connections depicted <br /> on the maps. The OUTBoard's review comments will be provided to Carrboro planners for <br /> consideration in finalizing the bike plan update. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no immediate financial impact associated with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): Staff recommends OUTBoard provide comments. <br />
