<br />IV. Minutes Approval – April 8, 2019 <br />A. HRC members reviewed the minutes from the previous HRC meeting. HRC members <br />identified an error on the attendance roster, and made suggestions for it to be modified. <br />Ms. Stephanie Harrell’s name appeared twice as an attendee. Mr. Case made a motion <br />to approve the April minutes with the change. Mrs. Ana Garcia-Turner seconded the <br />motion. All were in favor to approve the minutes. <br /> <br />V. County Updates <br />A. Ms. Annette Moore reminded HRC member of their Fair Housing training on June 1, <br />2019 at the Whitted building from 9am-4pm. Stella Adams will be the trainer. Food will <br />be provided and organized by HR&R staff. <br />B. Ms. Moore reminded members that there will be no meeting July 2019. She <br />encouraged sub-committees to correspond with one another during that time. <br />C. Ms. Moore provided a debriefing on the Community Dinner. There were over 600 in <br />attendance, and the event went well. Everyone was fed, and there was hardly any <br />leftover food. Ms. Moore explained the she and Ms. Nerys Levy discussed ideas of <br />having smaller community-based, community dinners in the northern part of the <br />county. Ms. Moore suggested that this may be something the HRC could be involved <br />with. <br />D. Ms. Moore discussed working more with young people and events catered to young <br />people. She explained how, in the past, the HRC hosted a youth summit. She invited <br />members to accompany HR&R staff with developing ideas for young people. <br />E. Ms. Moore discussed working Government Alliance on Race & Equity (GARE) and how <br />the Orange County Government is taking an interest on working on racial equity and <br />imbed a racial equity in our “systems”. <br /> <br />VI. Updates <br />A. Ms. Moore reported that Dr. Deborah Stroman, Ms. Rebecca High, and Ms. Stephanie <br />Harrell are coming up for reappointment. Ms. Joy Preslar’s term will expire June 2019. <br />Ms. Rebecca High announced she will be moving out of state in the fall of 2019. <br />B. Ms. Tara May reported that Ms. Stephanie Harrell left word that she will be sending out <br />the blog sign-up sheet to HRC members. <br />C. HRC members will review some of the HRC candidates for the June 2019 meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />VII. HRC Events & Committee Reports <br />A. Pauli Murray <br />1. HRC members discussed promoting the ceremony this year. HRC members <br />suggested getting in the hands of youth groups and the schools in the county. <br />Ms. May explained how HR&R staff has reached out to staff members and <br />representatives of the schools in the county, in the past. In order to increase <br />contestant submissions, HR&R staff will work with HRC members to get the word <br />out sooner to schools and organizations that work with young people. <br />2 <br />
