ORANGE COUNTY ARTS COMMISSION <br /> June 10, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. <br /> 200 S. Cameron St. I Hillsborough, NC <br /> Board Members present: Fred Joiner, Chair, Delia Keefe, Secretary, Tinka Jordy,Vice Chair, Dan Mayer, Linda <br /> Williamson, Marcelo Slade, Ashley Nissler, Bronwyn Merritt, Marlon Torres, Justin Haslett, Doris Friend, <br /> Rachael Despard <br /> Board Members absent: Anita Mills, Tim Hoke, Chris Kubica <br /> Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director <br /> I. Fred called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br /> a. Doris moved, Ashley seconded to approve the May, 2019. Motion approved. <br /> II. Advisory Board Update: <br /> a. UNC student, Rachael Despard,joined us for this meeting and all present introduced <br /> themselves to her. <br /> b. Katie stated that the board we cannot carry motions from one meeting to another. <br /> c. Katie also stated that the board cannot vote over email. <br /> III. Director's Report: <br /> a. Katie thinks the formulation of a 501(c)3 partnership with OCAC will have many benefits such as <br /> easing the means to accept donations and support and facilitating negotiations. She is <br /> continuing discussions with this goal in mind. <br /> b. Katie and Fred had a very positive conversation with the owner of Eno Mill regarding converting <br /> vacant space into art space. <br /> c. Katie emphasized the importance of promoting the establishment of substantial artists' space <br /> beyond pop-ups. <br /> d. A social networking event is in the planning stages. <br /> e. The first professional development class for artists has sold out. The second class is filling up. <br /> IV. Grants: <br /> a. All applications need to conform to the standard set. The process will be selective and <br /> competitive. Panel meetings are not yet scheduled. <br /> V. Liaison Reports: <br /> a. UNC/Chapel Hill Arts Commission/UNC Playmakers -Justin <br /> i. Funds have been allocated to install an artistic flood-water management structure on <br /> Elliott Rd. <br /> ii. The Forest Theater is being studied for renovation. <br /> b. Hillsborough Arts Council—Doris <br /> i. The Hillsborough Arts Council in partnership with C3 is providing artists' space for 4 <br /> artists at $300 per month with a years lease. C3 will manage this. <br /> ii. Options for Paperhand Parade storage space are being discussed. <br /> iii. The strategic plan and budget have been approved. <br /> c. The Arts Center/Carrboro Arts Committee—Dan <br /> i. Summer season is starting. <br /> ii. High school students get service learning hours for their work at TAC. <br /> iii. Some summer shows are booked. 10x10 is coming back. <br />
