Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee <br />Meeting Minutes, July 9, 2019 <br /> 5:30pm, Seymour Center, Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER by Vibeke Talley, Chair <br />• Members Present: Vibeke Talley (Chair) Martha Bell, Jackie Podger, Jerry Ann Gregory, <br />Autumn Cox (Ombudsman), Bill Morgan, Annie Deaver (Orange County Department on Aging) <br />• Members excused: Carol Kelly, Stephanie Boswell <br />• Members Absent: Stephanie Miller <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS; <br />• Discussion/Approval Minutes May 7, 2019: Minutes approved as written. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />• Membership: Vibeke continued emphasis for all to continue membership recruitment in light <br />of current openings; she will also contact Ms. Miller re: her absences and whether she plans to <br />continue as committee member. <br /> <br />• Site Visit Reports: <br />o Brookshire: Accepted as written <br /> <br />o Pruitt Carolina Point: Repeated concerns re: getting residents who want to attend a <br />program to that activity; call bell responsiveness; negative staff attitude, and questions about <br />supporting residents rights. Committee members will follow up with resident and family <br />member concerns at next visit. See Ombudsman Report. Report approved as written. <br /> <br />o Parkview: Accepted as written <br /> <br />o Signature: Accepted as written; See further comments in Ombudsman Report. <br /> <br />• Ombudsman Report (Autumn Cox, Ombudsman) <br />o Visits/Complaints Received and Reviewed for sites: <br />▪ Brookshire: independent living resident concerns referred to the Dept of <br /> Insurance, which handles issues for the independent residents); <br />▪ Parkview: Noted increased number of discharges; has been working with social <br /> worker on regulations regarding proper discharges ; Participated in tabletop exercise re: <br />“Active Shooter” as part of emergency preparedness: involved local law enforcement with <br />staff, excellent training material. <br />▪ Signature: New Director of Nursing; increased number of discharges with some decrease <br />in general complaints. Facility no longer listed on poor performance within NC. <br />▪ Pruitt Carolina Point: State survey (April-May) with several deficiencies cited, including <br />residents rights; staff in process of appeal and correcting issues. <br /> <br />o County Commissioners Recognition of volunteer service. This year’s gift is a <br />tote bag with the Orange County name. Committee members send thanks to the <br />Commissioners for the recognition of services. <br /> <br />o Ombudsman Vacancy: one vacancy within Region J, however it affects Wake and
