4
February 19, 2a01
TOWN OF GARRBORO
NQRTW CARO~fNA
Mr. Stephen Hallciotis, Chair
Orange County Board of Commissioners
P.O. Box SISI
Hillsborough, N.C. 27278
Dear Mr. Halkiotis:
We would like to thank Mr. Jerry Passmore and Ms. Florence Saltys for their presentation of the
Orange County Master Aging Plan to the Carrboro Board of Aldermen. on January 16, 2001. The
Carrbora Board of Aldermen supports the general direction of the plan.
The Board would like to see improvements ~to Chapel Hill Transit or regional transit services
included to provide access to health services to the elderly. It seems important also to provide
evening transit services far seniors who don't feel comfortable driving after dark. In addition,
the Board is very interested in pursuing County funding to provide Internet services for the
elderly and other groups in the Resource Raom at the Carrboro Century Center.
Thanks again to Mr. Passmore and the members of the Master Aging Plan Task Force for this
very inclusive and extensive report.
Sincerely,
~~
Michael R. Nelson
Mayor
~c: Jerry Passmore
